I’ve made my way through this brilliant recipe book in an unusual way, by choosing to make one of the recipes every time I come across one I like。 The problem with this is I like most of them!!The recipes are easy to follow and there are useful tips for beginners to use。 This is an excellent book!

I am not a domestic diva。 I have been known to burn water。 However, I do like to bake, even if the final result is not always pretty to look at, it generally tastes all right。 With enforced time on my hands during the COVID 19 lockdown I decided that I had run out of excuses and it was now time to learn how to bake properly。 And there's really only one person I want to be when I grow up - Ms Mary Berry! So I have attempted several bakes in the collection so far。 By far the best-completed bakes we I am not a domestic diva。 I have been known to burn water。 However, I do like to bake, even if the final result is not always pretty to look at, it generally tastes all right。 With enforced time on my hands during the COVID 19 lockdown I decided that I had run out of excuses and it was now time to learn how to bake properly。 And there's really only one person I want to be when I grow up - Ms Mary Berry! So I have attempted several bakes in the collection so far。 By far the best-completed bakes were my Bakewell Tarts, Victoria Sponge and Battenburg。 My colouring went a bit。。。funky on the Battenburg but it most decidedly was tasty! 。。。more

My Kitchen Table: 100 Cakes and Bakes is a delightful cake book from Mary Berry。The book is split into six sections (no of recipes):- Large cakes & Swiss Rolls (21)- Small cakes (12)- Traybakes & loaf cakes (24)- Scones, buns & pancakes (13)- Special cakes (21)- Occasion cakes (9)There are your usual classics such as Victoria Sponge, Fairy Cakes and a few I've not heard of but would like to try such as Singin' Hinny。 Most cakes can be made in an hour or less, and some require the fruit to be soa My Kitchen Table: 100 Cakes and Bakes is a delightful cake book from Mary Berry。The book is split into six sections (no of recipes):- Large cakes & Swiss Rolls (21)- Small cakes (12)- Traybakes & loaf cakes (24)- Scones, buns & pancakes (13)- Special cakes (21)- Occasion cakes (9)There are your usual classics such as Victoria Sponge, Fairy Cakes and a few I've not heard of but would like to try such as Singin' Hinny。 Most cakes can be made in an hour or less, and some require the fruit to be soaked overnight。 Included in the Special cakes are a number of cheesecakes too which are great as a pudding I find。Each recipe comes with a full colour photograph, a list of ingredients, plus what cakes tins or trays are required。 The measurements are in both metric and imperial。I enjoy surprising my family with different cakes, and there are plenty to make from this book。 I like the way it gives details for alternative filling or if you want a smaller cake, it provides tips on how to do that, so there are actually more than the 100 cakes listed。 I have a few of Mary Berry's other books and this one might be a good edition to my cook book library as it would be easy to flick through。 However, you do need to bear in mind that all of these recipes are contained in 5 other books of hers - note regarding this at the rear of the book。I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review。 。。。more

My Kitchen Table: 100 Cakes and Bakes by a Mary Berry has a wonderful selection of cakes and bakes。 From something easy to the more complicated。 The format is easy to follow and the pictures are very pretty。 Although I feel that having the pictures before the recipes would be better than having them after the recipes。 It can be slightly confusing。Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this。

The ebook also has links to read up for more info online。 Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this book in exchange for my honest review。

What is there to say about this book? Mary Berry is just the best。 Her lovely grandmotherly tones, the comforting fruity smells that accompanied my childhood from my nan’s baking。。。this book encompasses all of that。Her recipes are simple and foolproof, and you know what? Mary Berry can be relied upon to create recipes that are not only delicious and aesthetically pleasing, but also work for even the most inexperienced baker。 This book provides simple recipes that can be attempted by children, such as the all in one traybake, but also more challenging bakes such as the raspberry meringue roulade。 It also contains recipes from around the world that may not be so familiar to readers, as well as some savoury options such as the delicious cheese scone round。 Whicheve Mary Berry can be relied upon to create recipes that are not only delicious and aesthetically pleasing, but also work for even the most inexperienced baker。 This book provides simple recipes that can be attempted by children, such as the all in one traybake, but also more challenging bakes such as the raspberry meringue roulade。 It also contains recipes from around the world that may not be so familiar to readers, as well as some savoury options such as the delicious cheese scone round。 Whichever recipeS I attempt from this book disappear very quickly in my home。 That is recommendation enough。 。。。more

This is a great book, with plenty of different types of cakes that you may have heard of, but never made, like a Victoria sponge。 It’s a great book to dip into。 The recipes are easy to follow and the results were delicious。 Not a book for those on a diet。

Thanks to Net Galley for providing me with an e-copy in exchange for a review。As lockdown is still in effect, Net Galley is pretty thoughtful to put this baking guide on its site。 And I'm guessing like everyone else in the UK, you're bored and want to try baking something other than banana bread。This book is full of easy to follow recipes that are accompanied by a step by step guide and a picture so even if you don't know what a Singin' Hinny is, you'll find out in this book!I just have to find Thanks to Net Galley for providing me with an e-copy in exchange for a review。As lockdown is still in effect, Net Galley is pretty thoughtful to put this baking guide on its site。 And I'm guessing like everyone else in the UK, you're bored and want to try baking something other than banana bread。This book is full of easy to follow recipes that are accompanied by a step by step guide and a picture so even if you don't know what a Singin' Hinny is, you'll find out in this book!I just have to find some flour first。。 。。。more

This seems to have been released in 2011 but has popped back up on netgalley。 Possibly as everyone seems to be baking during lockdown。 I baked before but have definitely increased my output and tried new recipes。 I enjoyed this book and another one where I've read the proof and then gone out and bought the printed version。 With 100 recipes on offer there's something for everyone。 It's easy to follow and lots of colourful pictures。 More importantly for me most of the recipes are easily made with This seems to have been released in 2011 but has popped back up on netgalley。 Possibly as everyone seems to be baking during lockdown。 I baked before but have definitely increased my output and tried new recipes。 I enjoyed this book and another one where I've read the proof and then gone out and bought the printed version。 With 100 recipes on offer there's something for everyone。 It's easy to follow and lots of colourful pictures。 More importantly for me most of the recipes are easily made with store cupboard items。 No rooting around websites for obscure items。 Just what I needed to enhance my baking skills。 。。。more

A great baking bible, of course it’s Mary Berry, I’ve been using her recipes since I learned to bake when I was little with my mum and I won’t stop。 Her recipes don’t let you down and are always tasty。 This is a great little book, well presented, great pictures and easy to follow instructions。 The perfect baking bible, but I am biased。Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

I have had great luck with everything I have tried from this book! Some ingredients are a little hard to find her e in the states but I have been able to find substitutes for most thing。 I think the measurements in weight rather than volume are more accurate than the standard american recipe。 Only thing I struggle with is converting the oven temperatures。

This book has lots of interesting looking recipes but is definitely straight to the point, which is the point of the book but I prefer my cookbooks to help me feel the love and culture behind the cooking so this wasn't quite for me。 But I'm sure the recipes is still great! This book is very dry。 If you just want a recipe book, this is perfect。 The recipes are amazing and delicious but if you wanted a cook book with stories in it, there aren't really any in there。 For me, I like some stories or explanation more than she gives here but the cakes are, and if I didn't bake all of them, look amazing。 This book is very dry。 If you just want a recipe book, this is perfect。 The recipes are amazing and delicious but if you wanted a cook book with stories in it, there aren't really any in there。 For me, I like some stories or explanation more than she gives here but the cakes are, and if I didn't bake all of them, look amazing。 。。。more

This is an exceptional baking book。 The recipes are simple and straightforward。 You will need to translate British to American quite a bit, and you may buy a couple of new pans (for now I'm going to use casseroles dishes, which seem the right size and shape)。 Berry is more casual in this book than on The Great British Baking Show。 The book is comfortable and comforting。 So many of the recipes are new flavors for me, like coffee and walnut。 The classic British cakes are all included。 And Berry's This is an exceptional baking book。 The recipes are simple and straightforward。 You will need to translate British to American quite a bit, and you may buy a couple of new pans (for now I'm going to use casseroles dishes, which seem the right size and shape)。 Berry is more casual in this book than on The Great British Baking Show。 The book is comfortable and comforting。 So many of the recipes are new flavors for me, like coffee and walnut。 The classic British cakes are all included。 And Berry's interpretation of American recipes made me chuckle。 I'm going to make my first Madeira cake today, using orange instead of lemon。 It's a perfect cake for this subzero winter day。 。。。more

If like me your kitchen looks like a frontier full of past failures then this little book from the stalwart Mary Berry might just be the tonic to get you back to your winning ways。 I've tried and failed under the tutelage of Gordon Ramsay, Nigella Lawson, Two Greedy Italians and it pains me to admit it, Yotam Ottolenghi (love his videos)。 Finally I decided lets bake some cakes with Mary Berry。 Success。 Not only do I enjoy what I bake but family now ask me to bake for social events。 The recipes a If like me your kitchen looks like a frontier full of past failures then this little book from the stalwart Mary Berry might just be the tonic to get you back to your winning ways。 I've tried and failed under the tutelage of Gordon Ramsay, Nigella Lawson, Two Greedy Italians and it pains me to admit it, Yotam Ottolenghi (love his videos)。 Finally I decided lets bake some cakes with Mary Berry。 Success。 Not only do I enjoy what I bake but family now ask me to bake for social events。 The recipes are easy to follow, all the ingredients can be found in a large supermarket。 No more travelling the length of the country for Nigella's elusive ingredients。Oddly enough I find Mary Berry uses less butter and sugar in comparison to Nigella, that can't be a bad thing。 I would recommend this little gem to those who consider themselves novices in the kitchen (just like me)。 For the more advanced baker, I cannot say。Specifically I recommend page 36, “Apple and Cinnamon cake” (my recommendation: heat the cake and add plain white ice cream, lovely)To give you an idea of how accessible these cakes are, here are the ingredients:butter 225glight muscovado sugar 225g (brown)3 large eggs100 grams chopped walnuts (you could omit to save money without impeding the taste)100 grams sultanas2 level tsp baking powderself-raising flour 225g400 grams cooking apples (sometimes tough to find at Christmas time)1 level tsp ground cinnamonThats it!!Keep your austerity Mr David Cameron, I'm still gonna bake my cakes。。。OK some icing sugar for the topping if your a bit of a show-off。 The cost is light but still I can't beat the supermarket for price on a similar sized cake。 But then they can't produce a cake that tastes as fresh or as light as this。The book is easy to navigate with each recipe taking up no more than one page。 Sadly the book has fallen apart due to usage but that's ok as the pages fall-out cleanly which make them easier to use。。。win。。。win。。。OK page 87, Barrowdale Teabread。 A good one to get started if your a little unsure of your skills。 This is where I started。 Friends and family loved it but for me it wasn't to my taste。There's a reason Carlsberg don't do cakes and bakes。。。 Mary Berry。 。。。more
